A curated collection of mallets for serious students. No "B models," no seconds - only the highest quality. These are mallets and a bag that are not only a good starting place, but can last your entire career. Add more mallets now or later. This bag has plenty of room to grow.
The iconic BDF1 is known as the Mahler 3 beaters. All of my products have been developed by necessity from playing in the orchestra and making something that fit a certain need. However, this one was initially developed in 1988 just for playing the Mahler 3 excerpts in auditions. As it turned out, it also worked great in reality with the orchestra! Below are photos of the first generations of this model.
This new model is based on the same design as the BDF1 yet still lighter than the standard BD4 wood shaft model. It’s perfect for players that prefer traditional grip when playing with pairs.
The BDDR model is my double headed one hand bass drum roller. This is a necessity for those pieces and of course for any situation where you have a "limited" percussion section and have to multi task.
The BDF7 has now been reinvented with a new fiberglass shaft, new thicker/softer base felt and a new synthetic wool covering with a faux suede backing.
The BD2 has also been around for a long time now and has proven itself. It has a slight taper in the fulcrum to make it easier to handle which gives it a much more refined balance and feel.
The BD4 has been one of our long time “go to” general mallets in The Cleveland Orchestra for many years now. Select Limited Edition Rosewood shaft with solid maple ball and weighted insert inside the head.
The BD5 is the super sized version of the BD4 with a head diameter of 80mm and thin soft German felt covering. Best description for the sound of this mallet is BIG, fat, warm and boomy.
The BD8 continues to be a best seller because of its versatility. The only double ended mallet in the line, it features identical cores on each end with a hard green felt on one end and soft German felt on the other.
