Return to previous pageThe new Dresdner series mallets are a European design made to meet the needs of players who prefer ball sticks over cartwheel sticks. All models are of seamless construction and feature different core materials and multiple layers of various felt and other materials. I’m very happy to finally introduce this new line now especially for my loyal customers who have asked so frequently for this style of mallet over the past five years.
The market is literally flooded with this type of stick now so I had to spend a considerable amount of time on the design in order to ensure that I could produce a cleaner sounding alternative to other mallets of their kind that are currently available. The goal was to produce a full line of ball sticks with no contact sound, quick speaking with more immediate projection than average.

Dresdner Series #2 Hard Chamois

1" diameter wood ball with tight chamois cover. Chamois is always carefully selected for matched thickness and evenness. Warmer than #1 and still very bright and clear. Perfect for Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and much more. Also excellent for percussion instruments and chamber music.

1" diameter wood disc with multiple felt layers and very thin soft German felt ball cover. Very bright and clean sound without being slappy and harsh. No voicing is done to this model. Warmer sound than #2, a great all around hard stick with a pretty sound.
Dresdner Series #4 General Felt

1 1/8" diameter cork core with multiple felt layers and medium German felt ball cover. Clean and round sound with no contact noise and a bridge from hard to medium soft, sort of a clean and clear general stick. Good choice for Finlandia and many other excerpts because there's just enough felt to roll nicely but not so much that you feel the need to articulate through all the felt. Minimally voiced.
Dresdner Series #5 Medium Soft

1 1/4" diameter cork core with multiple felt layers and medium thick German felt ball cover. Round and warm sound with just enough clarity to be called a warm general stick. So far, most players that have tested this call it a "go to" general. *Break in period for this model is approximately 1 week of regular playing for the felt to relax a bit and become even further voiced naturally...or you can voice them more heavily before using if you wish.

1 1/2" diameter cork core with multiple felt layers creating a progressively thicker cover overall. This is always preferable to forcing on too thick of a piece of felt at one time as many stick makers do. It takes more time and more steps to do it this way but the sound is worth it in the end. This is a very warm and round stick and was created by the requests of my current timpani artists. It is essentially a ball stick version of my BCS model stick with a 10-11mm diameter Tonkin shaft. Highly recommended for Shostakovich 1 cadenza and Bartok Concerto for Orchestra for example. Also an excellent lighter weight roll stick. Try this for the solo high F roll in Tchaik 4. *Break in period for this model is approximately 1 week of regular playing for the felt to relax a bit and become even further voiced naturally...or you can voice them more heavily before using if you wish.

The newest incarnation of my velvety roll mallets which have been around for 25 years now. This version once again features a unique core material that is still unique and not offered by anyone else. The cores on this model are really key to it's success. This newest version has a taller core than I've used in the past and has proven to be a very good improvement. I have finally been able to re release them now with all the latest developments and advancements in their covering technique and underlayments. With five different layers of felt, and the softness/flex of the core, you are able to get incredible velvety smooth rolls on any drum in any range with no effort at all.
