When you unfold it, it lays on the head immediately and does its job. Tail of both mufflers adjustable so you can position further towards the center or tight to the rim.
Your FP mufflers are designed to be easy on, easy off with their custom nylon clip. The tail of the muffler should always be tucked up inside the clip when mounting to the rim.
The leather always goes over the rim and the clip goes over the leather just as they come in the package. You can adjust the distance from the rim to have the muffler further into the head area or close to the rim if you wish. The tail of the muffler is designed to accommodate any type of rim from single flange to most wood hoops. If you wish to adjust distance, then reposition the leather inside the clip further up or further down the tail as you wish. Do not attempt to pull the clip off of the leather tail as it is permanently riveted in place.
The new patent pending adjustable large muffler is meant to be folded onto itself by 3rds so it can go from extreme muting to minimal muting. For the maximum muffling effect, open the muffler all the way out onto the head. For less muffling, fold over one side onto the middle and for even less muffling fold both right and left wings over onto the middle. The advantages of this design are in the ability of the leather to lay flat on the head when fully extended and to easily fold over onto itself without having to remove the muffler from the drum and force the leather into place. Since leather is a natural product, some mufflers may be slightly stiffer than others initially but the hinged area is easily bent and “broken in” by pinching it closed with your fingers several times in both directions. The leather will soften and relax quickly and will operate perfectly. With proper care these mufflers will last a lifetime.
